Two people were badly hurt when a 3-vehicle crash took place on Interstate 57. The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived to help at around 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes.
A 54-year-old man from Tennessee is accused of driving his vehicle off the side of the road. After doing so, his trailers overturned. One landed on its top, while the other landed on its side and blocked the roadway. Another passing semi hit the overturned vehicle and came to rest between two lanes, blocking traffic. That caused another truck driver to become involved as he maneuvered his vehicle off the road to avoid the collision. The vehicle was hit by debris.
The 54-year-old man and a 63-year-old driver from Arkansas both had to be flown to a hospital in Memphis with serious injuries. The third driver, as well as a dog that was involved in the collision, were reportedly uninjured.
Crashes like this one show how important it is for people to give each other enough space on the road. If a mistake of any kind is made by a semi driver, then there is a potential for the semi to go off the road or to crash and block traffic. If you don't have enough time to stop, then that could result in a serious crash.
If you are involved in a crash with a semi truck, know that you can pursue a claim against any driver who caused the collision. You may also be able to claim against an employer or other party who could be liable for that driver's actions.
