Worker killed in New Holland construction plant in Wichita

On Behalf of | Nov 21, 2019 | Workers' Compensation |

When a construction team is at work, it’s important that everyone is focused on the job at hand and making sure the equipment is safe. Whenever an error is made, there is a real risk that someone could get hurt or that a person could be killed.

Take, for example, this case out of Wichita. The Wichita police reported that a 35-year-old man passed away after a workplace accident at a local construction equipment plant.

The plant, New Holland Construction, runs equipment within the building. The news reported that the worker was critically injured when a piece of equipment fell and pinned him. While other workers were present and able to cycle the equipment to get to him prior to emergency care arriving, it was not enough to save him. He was not breathing when the emergency team arrived and died a short time later.

Incidents like this are not uncommon, which is the sad truth about working in any industry. Accidents happen, but many could be prevented by carefully checking equipment and making sure safety procedures are being followed.

What should you do if you’re involved in a construction accident?

If you are involved in and survive a construction accident, you should know that you’re able to file for workers’ compensation in most cases. Workers’ compensation offers benefits such as medical coverage and coverage for your lost wages.

In cases where a worker is killed, workers’ compensation may also offer death benefits, such as covering funeral costs and making payments to the remaining family members or spouse of the worker.
